Through land/soil judging, 4-H members systematically evaluate soil properties affecting suitability for such uses as crop production, housing, transportation and waste disposal. The experiences judging land, teach 4-H’ers that soil is a natural resource that must be preserved. Youth also learn to make judgments and recommendations on setting aside land for specific uses and preserving soil resources.
